If you require heart bypass surgery also known as Coronary Heart Bypass Graft Surgery. There are a number of different ways that bypass surgery can be performed. The method that is used for you would depend on how many bypasses you need.
Please refer to our booklet (HIS 12) Having Heart Surgery.
Taking time to prepare for surgery is as important as the recovery time. Whilst you are waiting for surgery is a good time to examine your lifestyle and see if there are any adjustments that you can make that will help your recovery.
We have several booklets about adjusting your risk factors which you may find useful before and after surgery as Eating for your heart, Physical Activity and your Heart, Smoking and how to give up. For the full range please see our publications section.
If you are recovering from heart surgery please see our booklet on Cardiac Rehabilitation or (G265) Rehabilitation CD. You may also like to see the information in the following booklets:
Caring for someone with a Heart Condition, Returning to work with a heart Condition, and Affairs of the Heart (DVD 8).
