A doctor or nurse may want to take a blood test to help diagnose a condition, or to help monitor someone who has already been diagnosed with a heart condition. Some blood tests are also taken to help monitor the effects of medication.
The types of blood tests you may have include cardiac enzyme tests (including troponin tests and tests for other enzymes); a full blood count, thyroid function test, BNP tests and homocysteine tests.
For more information on blood tests please see our booklets Tests for heart conditions.
