If you are unable to work for any length of time because of your heart condition it may impact on you financially. This can cause a lot of stress and worry. If you are worried about money or debt it is important to speak, as soon as possible, to one of the agencies who can provide you with advise such as the Citizens Advice Bureau or National Debtline Agency.
If your condition has affected your ability to work, you may be entitled to financial support, such as severe disability allowance, disablement living allowance, statutory sick pay and short-term incapacity benefit, carers allowance and attendance allowance, housing and council tax benefit.
Your local Social Security department will be able to provide you with information about benefits. All of their information is available in eleven other languages. Ask for more details about this. If you are in hospital you can arrange to speak to the hospital social worker. It would be worth consulting your doctor or the hospital staff if you need assistance at home for health reasons.
For more information on organisations that can advise you on benefits and financial assistance and help with NHS costs please see our information sheets in our FAQs section on Benefits and Financial Aid; and Children's Helplines and help with funding.
