Coping with End of Life and Bereavement

Holding hands

Bereavement is something that we will all have to go through at some point in our lives and, until we experience it, it is very hard to know what our reactions will be or how we will cope.

It is important to remember that, although there will be certain common aspects of bereavement, it is an intensely personal experience and there is no ‘normal’ reaction.

How each person responds will be completely unique to them, as will the ways in which they deal with it.

Sometimes feelings of bereavement are also experienced if someone you love becomes terminally ill.

Talking to someone can make the process a lot less lonely and is recognised as one of the most important elements in the grieving and healing process.

The British Heart Foundation bereavement service

The British Heart Foundation offers a bereavement service to support people who need someone to talk to about the way they are feeling. If you would like to speak to our bereavement counsellor please call our Heart Help Line on 0300 330 3311. Lines are open 9am-6pm Monday to Friday (calls charged at a local rate).
