Mother and daughterMum's the word

Show your Mum you really love her by looking after her heart this Mothering Sunday.

Start the day as you mean to go on

Planning to surprise your Mum with breakfast in bed? Choose healthy options like fruit with low fat yoghurt and a toasted raisin cinnamon bagel or poached eggs on wholemeal toast with some pure, unsweetened fruit juice.

Time for Mum to put her feet up

Spending time with your Mum can mean a lot. Instead of taking your mum out for a slap up lunch think about an alternative activity – a relaxing day in a spa for the more extravagant or maybe you could go for a manicure together in the local salon.

Family fun

Why not gather the whole family up and go for a walk? It’s a great way to have fun together and, for the more adventurous, the family can work as a team to follow the map. It’ll count towards your daily physical activity too.

flowersSay it with flowers

Some lovely blooms will be just as welcome as chocolates but are heart healthier with none of the fat or calories.

A weighty issue

Is your Mum watching her waistline? Why not offer to be her buddy for the day and support her by planning activities that she will enjoy, but also help her to achieve her goals.

Get cooking!

With Mum putting her feet up this is the day for the family to get in the kitchen with the kids and do some cooking. It doesn’t have to be an extravagant meal – try smoothies, fruit salads or top ready made pizza bases with tomato puree, vegetables and lower fat cheese to make pizza faces.

Eating out?

If you’re going out for a meal on Mothering Sunday make healthier choices where you can. Opt for a jacket potato or rice instead of chips, choose tomato based rather than creamy sauces and make sure you have a good helping of salad or vegetables with your meal.
