Melas

Melas are one or two day outdoor events that bring together music, multi-cultural food, fashion, shopping, Bollywood and much more.

Come and visit us at a Mela near you!
Melas are popular cultural events for the South Asian and general UK population.
They originated in South Asia where they marked key events in the local agricultural and religious calendars.

We attend Melas across the UK to raise awareness of heart disease and promote healthy living strategies as well as giving out a huge range of free resources that we specifically produce for the South Asian community.

South Asian dancingThis year we will be attending the following Melas:

  • 4th September: London
  • 4th September: Birmingham Eid

There are lots of activities happening at our stand this year including: a food game with iPod prizes; games, activities and face painting for kids and a huge range of free resources.

South Asians and heart disease

  • South Asians living in the UK are more likely to have a heart attack before the age of 75 compared to the rest of the UK population.
  • The number of people living with type-2 diabetes within the South Asian community is much higher than in the rest of the UK population.
  • Take a look at our South Asian publications in six languages (Gujarati, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, Punjabi and English) which can help you manage your heart health.
