Hearty Lives Gloucester

Hearty Lives Gloucester is a three year, £100,000, partnership project to improve the heart health of people living in Gloucester.

Gloucester was chosen to receive funding because rates of smoking, obesity and premature deaths from heart disease are higher than in the rest of the South West. The project will initially focus on the Podsmead area, with a hope to extend the scheme to neighbouring communities in the future.

Aims

  • Involve the community and learn how to successfully engage local people
  • Recruit and train a network of local volunteers to pass on healthy heart messages
  • Support volunteers to establish community health initiatives
  • Create a DVD to share community achievements

Dr Shona Arora, Director of Public Health, said:
‘The funding from BHF is a fantastic opportunity to make a lasting difference to the heart health of local people, and I look forward to working with the Podsmead community to make it happen.’

The project so far

The project started in January 2013 and has started to develop community links and activities.
