Mortality rates from cardiovascular disease continue to fall, but CVD is still the single biggest killer in the UK with over 180,000 deaths in 2010. 80,000 of these deaths were from coronary heart disease and around 49,000 from strokes.

There is still much to do to reduce these rates further and prevent unnecessary suffering.

Over one million clinical practitioners work in the NHS, with thousands more in the independent sector and in health education and health promotion in the community: we appreciate the crucial role you play in realising our vision of a world where people no longer die prematurely from cardiovascular disease.
