Trek the ancient path of the Incas to one of
the world's most fascinating and important archaeological finds -
Machu Picchu.
This is your chance to join us on this mystical step
back in time as we wind our way up the spectacular Inca
Trail.
As we will be climbing at fairly high altitudes (max point at
Dead Women's Pass - 4,200m), we will spend two
nights in the historical city of Cuzco at
3,400m, to help us acclimatise. This gives us a
great opportunity to explore this charming city and get a real
taste of Peruvian mountain life.
On leaving Cuzco, we will transfer to the market town of
Ollantaytambo - our last taste of civilisation
before hitting the trail. We will spend the next 3 days climbing
high up into the mountains, through beautiful cloud forests to a
riverside camp, then onto archaeological sites and into the well
preserved Inca town of Sayac Marca.
On the 4th day's trek, we rise at 4am in order to reach
Intipunku (Gates of the Sun) for the most magical
sunrise you are ever likely to encounter. It is from here that
we catch our first overwhelming glimpse of the
awe-inspiring Lost City of the Incas - Machu
Picchu.
There will be plenty of time to explore this
magnificent archaeological find, perhaps taking a
quiet moment to imagine what life must have been like for the Incas
in Machu Picchu.
After a night in Aguas Calientes, we will take
the train to Ollantaytambo with exceptionally stunning scenery en
route. We will then return to Cuzco for an afternoon before
celebrating our fantastic achievement in the evening.
The next day we start our journey home, feeling truly victorious
about our achievement!
