Volunteer in our shops
Our 560 BHF Shops and 150 Furniture and
Electrical Stores across the UK rely on volunteer
support.
No special skills are needed, just a
willingness to help. Whether you’re serving customers, helping with
stock collections, sorting donations or window dressing, you’ll be
part of a great team.
There are some specialist roles too, in book
and music departments and the Furniture and Electrical Stores.
As well as helping to raise vital funds, our
shop volunteers help raise awareness of heart health and our
life-saving work.
Volunteering is a great way to boost your CV
and gain valuable work experience too.
Pop into your local shop and speak to the
manager, or enquire onlineand we’ll help you arrange a
taster day in a shop close to you.
Help our local fundraising
Local fundraising allows you to be flexible in
what you do and how much time you give. We’ll let you know what’s
happening in your area and you can volunteer when you’re
available.
Here’s a taste of ways you can join in:
- Fundraise – join the team at
supermarkets and street collections or place pin badges or
collection boxes in local businesses.
- Help at BHF events - register participants,
marshal a course or give out water at one of our sponsored cycle
rides, walks or runs. Our events are normally in the evenings
or at weekends, so you can fit them around a working
week.
You’ll also get the chance to meet other
volunteers at regional volunteer meetings, giving you the
opportunity to join forces and get involved as a group.
Fundraise for our Mending Broken Hearts Appeal
Why not organise your own event for our Mending Broken Hearts Appeal? Whether it’s a
dress down day or a cake sale - you can make a difference.
We’ll send you all the information you need to get started,
including ideas for dozens of easy to organise events. We
can also help you out with materials such as posters and
sponsorship forms, to make sure you get the most from your
fundraising.
You’ll be supporting our £50million
groundbreaking research appeal and will be helping us to bring hope
to millions of people affected by heart disease in the UK.
Campaign to protect the UK's heart health
As a BHF campaigner, we’ll send you
regular email updates with all the different ways you can help us
make a difference. You'll be the first to know about any
campaigning news and ways to take action.
We believe that the combined voice of our
supporters around the UK, all committed to beating heart disease,
can be truly formidable.
Over 100,000 people helped us last year, and
it’s very easy to join in. Help us fight for a heart
healthy future for all.

Volunteering FAQs
People from all
different backgrounds and all with a variety of reasons
volunteer for us. Our volunteers range from heart patients looking
to ease themselves back into a working environment to family
members who have lost a loved one to heart disease. We have
students who come and give their time to learn new skills and
advance their employability. We have mums and dads who fit in some
hours around the school runs and those that are retired but want to
stay busy. The reasons are many and some volunteers just simply
give their time because they want to help others. We’re just
extremely grateful for their time as it helps us fund our vital and
life-saving work.
You learn, develop
your skills and gain valuable work experience. Volunteering is also
a fun way to make friends, build you confidence and help other
people.
Our
volunteers are the best ones to share with you what
they get from volunteering.
This will depend on
what you do for us. Often, enthusiasm, the ability to smile and
encourage are the most important skills required. There are some
specialist roles that require specific skills, and these are made
clear before you apply.
Depending on your
circumstances anyone aged over 16 can volunteer with us.
What’s great about
BHF volunteering is that there is lots of choice, including how
much time you give. For some it’s helping regularly, whilst others
help once in a while.Just sign up today and we’ll be in touch to
get you started.
Training needs depend
on the volunteer role and their level of previous experience, We do
offer an NVQ training course within our shops, speak to the shop
manager for details.
Volunteers should not
be out of pocket when they work with us, and we will reimburse
reasonable agreed expenses, such as bus fares.
