Wales, Cymru
Heart and circulatory disease is Wales’
biggest killer and sadly claims over 11,000 family
members every year – that’s a round a third of all deaths. We all
know someone affected by heart disease.
Thanks to you, we bring in around £1.2
million every year to beat heart disease in Wales and we
need you to carry on supporting our life-saving work by getting
involved in local events and appeals in your area, as well as volunteering and fundraising.
Last year alone in Wales, thanks to your
generous donations of time and money, we were able to:
- spend over £4,000 a day
making sure that our researchers and scientists undertake
world-class research to help beat heart
disease.
- provide 42 BHF Cymru
Specialist Heart Nurses to care for heart patients and to
support their families and carers.
- invest in two major projects
- Hearty Lives Torfaen and Blaenau
Gwent - committing over £1.75m to reduce deaths and
hospital admissions from coronary heart disease.
- campaign with and on behalf
of heart patients with the Welsh Assembly Government and NHS
Wales.
- provide emergency life
saving (ELS) skills training through our
Heartstart programme - training teachers,
children and organisations across Wales.
- buy £330,000 worth of
life-saving equipment for hospitals and in communities.
