Our work in Northern Ireland
A video about some of our work in Northern Ireland.

Heart and circulatory disease is Northern Ireland’s biggest killer, claiming nearly 5,000 people each year – around a third of all deaths. We’re dedicated to helping local people live longer and better lives with healthier hearts.

Search on our interactive map for more information on what's going in your area.

Thanks to the enthusiasm of our supporters and volunteers in Northern Ireland, in the last year we have:

  • invested £935,000 on heart research in Northern Ireland - that’s over £2,000 a day funding local research to help beat heart disease
  • provided BHF Northern Ireland Heart Nurses for heart patients, their families and carers
  • worked in partnership to tackle health inequalities through Hearty Lives Cookstown - we’ve committed over £225,000 to reduce deaths and hospital admissions from coronary heart disease within the Cookstown area
  • funded important education and teaching for healthcare professionals and the public
  • campaigned with and on behalf of heart patients
  • provided life-saving equipment -  we committed £16,500 towards 32 defibrillators
  • provided emergency life saving (ELS) skills training through our Heartstart programme - we have trained over 1,000 teachers who have in turn trained over 20,000 children
  • committed over £1,000,000 to help keep local hearts beating
  • successfully closed our two local appeals which funded a BHF Heart Nurse in the North West area and a Community Resuscitation Development Officer in Magherafelt

We couldn’t do it without your help.  There are lots of ways to contribute to our vital work in Northern Ireland - so get involved and help save the life you love.
