Defibrillator funding for football clubs

England U21's learn CPRThe British Heart Foundation has teamed up with The Football Association to help save lives in England's football clubs and communities.

We're working together to make 900 automated external defibrillators (AED) available to clubs in steps 1 - 6 of the National League System and clubs in the Women's Super League to help save lives from cardiac arrests.

The initiative will create thousands of life-savers by giving players, staff and fans access to the equipment and information needed to save a life,

Application process

  1. Eligible clubs will receive a 'Club application form' via email from their League after Monday 22 July 2013.
  2. To apply for an AED, clubs should complete the ‘Club application form’ and return it to its League Secretary with a cheque for £318 by Tuesday 20 August 2013.
  3. Your League will collate all applications from its clubs and forward them all to the BHF by Friday 30 August, who will acknowledge receipt of applications by email to League Secretaries.
  4. The ordering process for the AEDs could take up to three months from Friday 30 August 2013.
  5. Your club will be required to send two people who are already trained in basic life support, or are First Aid providers, to attend an AED familiarisation session. The FA or BHF will contact clubs to inform them of the location and date of these sessions.
  6. You will receive your AED at the familiarisation session.

The AED’s provided through The FA and BHF partnership will be a Cardiac Science G3 AED. The total cost of an AED is £795 plus VAT. Your contribution is £318 (including VAT).
