Event Update

This event is a great introduction to off-road riding for charity. London to Southend off -road is perfect for leisure and new off-road cyclists who like a bit of a challenge. The route uses mostly traffic free cycling on cycle paths and easy going off-road trails, through picturesque countryside. Don’t expect an easy ride though as this 40 mile route still provides a tough challenge and steely determination to get you to the coast

Starting along Ingrebourne Valley, passing through Hornchurch Country Park and out of the city, you’ll continue on a tranquil trail through Rainham Marsh, with wonderful views over the city and estuary.

After the quieter lanes around Basildon you'll wriggle along leafy bridleways through Benfleet, emerging at Hadleigh Castle Country Park to stunning views of Canvey Island. Then it’s just a drop down through the Olympic MTB course before a steep climb past Hadleigh Castle to finish at the Rare Breed Centre at Hadleigh Farm, in Southend.

Grading

Grade 2/3. The ride is technically an easy grade, but it is a 40 miler.

Fundraising

Fundraising funds research that saves lives. In 1961 the number of children born with a heart defect who survived to their first birthday was around only 20 per cent. Today that figure is 80 per cent, thanks to procedures such as valve replacement that help them lead improved lives.

For all our success, there's a lot still to be done. Coronary Heart disease is still the UK's single biggest killer. Surgery techniques can still be improved. And there are exciting developments in genetics and stem cell technology.

Your entry fee covers the cost of organising the event; so join the fight for every heartbeat by raising funds. Your fundraising will help us continue funding research to ensure hearts keep beating.
