Coalition government
The Coalition
Government presents us with lots of opportunities
to work with the new Westminster Government on a range of
heart health issues.
How can I help?
Get in touch with your MP amd let them know that their
constituents care about the UK’s single biggest
killer.
- Ask your MP to sign an Early Day Motion (a Parliamentary
petition) supporting our
Prescription for the UK's Heart Health and show their
commitment to tackling heart and circulatory disease by using
our quick
online letter.
- You can find out how to build a relationship with your MP and
campaign for better services for heart patients and those at risk
of heart disease in our campaigning
toolkit.
- Ask your MP to join the All Party Parliamentary Group on Heart
Disease - it’s a good way to keep them updated on important heart
health issues. They can contact westminster@bhf.org.uk for more
details.
What is the Government doing?
Our Prescription
for the UK's heart health sets out what we'd like to see
the new Government achieve in order to tackle heart and circulatory
disease.
- We asked the Government to identify a Senior Minister with
responsibility for heart and circulatory disease in England. We now
know that Simon Burns is the new minister for
cardiac services in England, so he'll be a key contact for us.
- We wanted to see every suitable heart patient taking part in
cardiac rehabilitation by 2015. The
Department of Health has recently released a commissioning toolkit
(a guide) on cardiac rehabilitation for the NHS in England to
ensure the best possible standard of care is avaliable for
all patients. This is very encouraging to see and it's
evidence of the Government treating cardiac rehabilitation as an
important priority.
We're working with all UK political parties to make sure
that heart and circulatory disease are at the top of their
agendas.
Thank you
Thank you to everyone who took part in our online
lobby. You all helped to send an amazing 933 emails to
Parliamentary candidates.
We had a great response with 200 Parliamentary
candidates pledging their support to tackle heart and
circulatory disease, and of those, we now have 72 elected MPs
supportive of our campaign.
Coming soon
Look out for an update in spring 2011 when elections take place
in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
