The Vallouise Valley in the Southern Alps chosen for this fantastic trek is highly reputed for it outstanding natural beauty, alpine flowers, excellent walks and wild mountain scenery.
Sheer granite slabs soar dramatically from the lush valley floor towards the snow and glacier covered alpine peaks, the most impressive glacier in the region being Glacier Blanc.
Set in the Ecrins National Park, this valley has to be the best kept secret in the Alps, offering stunning unspoilt views and great flora and fauna, including the magnificent golden eagles.
We start the challenge by trekking through the Valley of the Claphouse, a lost glen reached via alpine meadows and woodland.
Climbing upwards past a refreshing waterfall we reach a spot with excellent views of Le Pelvoux and its glacier as well as Ailefroide.
During the following days we trek up to the famous Refuge Glacier Blanc and the popular Lac de Eychauda reached via an ascent through beautiful meadowland - this lake is trapped in a wild and remote hollow rimmed by the Cretedes Grangettes.
Whether you are an alpinist or a gentle walker, to find such a spectacular location so close to home is a real rare treasure.
