Jump Rope for Heart - For Teachers
What is Jump Rope For Heart?
Jump Rope For Heart (JRFH) is the British Heart
Foundation's educational fundraising programme, designed to
help children skip their way to health.
This popular programme is recognised by the thousands of
schools that take part as a healthy, fun and challenging
aerobic activity that gets children active, while raising
money for both school and the BHF.
Once registered, you receive a free skipping resource
kit (containing equipment worth over £100) in order
to help you introduce and develop skipping to children. This
includes skipping ropes, sponsorship forms, posters and an
extensive Teachers Manual.
The Jump Off (a sponsored skip) is the
culminating activity of a progressive series of skipping lessons
and should promote safe activity in a fun, enjoyable
environment. The Jump Off can involve one class or the
whole school and teachers and parents!
The total money raised is split:
- 20% is retained by the school to spend however
you wish,
- 80% used by the BHF to fund pioneering research into the causes
and treatment of heart disease, patient care and support.
You will give the children a sponsorship form
and after the Jump Off all children who have raised much needed
funds will receive a certificate to say that they have taken part.
Additionally children who have raise over £50 will
receive either a junior or senior rucksack.
The children’s individual totals will not be recorded, but will
be pooled into a single school total.
Other benefits include:
- JRFH can contribute to the achievement of Healthy
Schools Award, Activemark, Sportsmark and Sports
Partnership awards.
- JRFH fits into the National Curriculum for
Physical Education.
- JRFH encourages a whole school approach to the
promotion of physical activity.
- Skipping at break times can contribute to the
recommended one hour a day of moderate intensity
physical activity for children and young people.
- Teachers have an exercise routine that is easy to organise plus
a comprehensive teacher’s pack. The free resource
pack that schools receive includes 31 brightly
coloured skipping ropes, two Double Dutch
skipping ropes and a Skipping Skills
DVD.
