Without Legacies…

Donations left in Wills are vital to us,
accounting for almost half of our funding. And when you consider
that the BHF is the largest independent funder of research into
heart and circulatory disease, as well as medical professionals,
training, information, a national helpline and much, much more,
you’ll see just why they’re so important.

Without legacies we’d only be able to do half as
much
And we don’t like doing things by half. Unless
we have the funds we need to see a research programme through from
start to finish, we simply can’t give it the go-ahead. And if that
happens, who knows which treatments or breakthroughs we might miss
out on?
Wouldn’t it be wonderful?
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the next
generation could grow up in a world where people didn’t die
prematurely from heart disease? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if more
families around the UK were spared the devastation of losing a
loved one in this tragic way? That is the goal of the BHF. And with
your legacy, you can help make it a reality.
More people are alive thanks to us
We’ve funded life-saving research for over 45
years. We’ve been behind major developments in preventing,
diagnosing and treating heart disease:
- Cholesterol lowering drugs called statins are
reducing the risk of heart attacks for thousands of people
- Diagnostic equipment, such as
echocardiograms, are helping doctors to detect abnormalities early
and prevent more serious problems
- Heart bypass surgery is now considered a
routine operation
- Over 250,000 people in the UK now have a
pacemaker.
All these advances were made possible by
people like you supporting the BHF – and they’ve helped
dramatically reduce the numbers of people under 65 dying
prematurely from coronary heart disease by a huge 44% in the last
ten years.
We want to beat premature heart disease
We are the UK’s leading heart charity and we’ve come a long way
in the fight against heart disease. Now we’ve set our biggest
challenge yet. We want to stop people dying prematurely from heart
disease – and we want to make this a reality for the next
generation.
It’s an ambitious goal, and it will only happen with continued and
significant investment in pioneering research. That’s how your
legacy could make a life-saving difference to future
generations.

“10 years ago I had a new
aortic valve and a pacemaker fitted. Your research helped make this
possible, and your literature helped me understand and deal with
it. The very least I can do is leave money to the BHF.”
Caroline Currie
Mia, happy and healthy with her Mum after three
major heart operations. Thanks to the kind of research funded by
BHF, 4 out of 5 children now survive congenital heart disease.
