Fundraising for hearts
Milk&More milkmen deliver donation
envelopes to their customers to support our life-saving work.
The milkmen from milk&more in
Leicestershire have teamed up with us to help children like
Hannah, who is one of around 4,600 babies born with
congenital heart disease each year in the UK. Hannah was
diagnosed with congenital heart disease at just seven weeks old and
has since undergone five major heart surgeries.
Delivering
The milkmen are delivering envelopes which feature Hannah’s
story and a plea for fundraising to help us support
other children in the same position.
Helping children
Hannah and her family have received help and support from Mary,
a BHF paediatric cardiac liaison nurse, who helped her parents
understand the complex condition and supported them through
Hannah’s surgeries and recovery.
Having access to Mary has meant there is someone there
Hannah’s mother,
Helen said: “Having access to Mary has meant there is
someone there to answer our many questions and
someone to listen. She has always been there for
us; she supports us at clinical appointments and gives us the
courage to ask difficult questions, explaining the answers to us in
a way we can understand.
Our daughter is a happy six year old and enjoys
school, swimming and playing with her brothers and sister but she
will need further treatment in the future. We are grateful
to have access to someone like Mary whenever that
treatment is next needed.”
Charity partnerships
We are working
together with milk&more in a charity of the year
partnership and so far, the milkmen have raised enough funds to
cover 7,600 hours of precious care for families like Hannah’s. Just
£26 of fundraising pays for an hour’s care from a BHF nurse like
Mary.
