After his quadruple bypass following a heart attack, Liverpool Walton MP Peter Kilfoyle was lucky enough to receive cardiac rehabilitation, a simple and inexpensive treatment which helps people get back on their feet physically and emotionally. Peter was so impressed by cardiac rehab that he's become an enthusiastic supporter of the BHF's drive to make the treatment available to everyone who needs it.
In September 2007, Peter set off on a epic 140 mile trek across tropical Nicaragua, to raise funds and publicise the campaign. The rainforests and mountainous terrain were tough going, but the result was worth it - Peter raised over £18,300 for the BHF's vital work. He also raised an equal amount for the Peace and Hope Trust, which works with some of the most impoverished in Nicaragua, currently the second poorest country in the Western hemisphere.
He remains an ongoing supporter of the BHF's campaign: "Cardiac rehabilitation is a life-saving treatment that's severely underestimated by the medical community and key decision makers. I'm backing the call for much needed funding for cardiac rehab which will help address heart health inequalities across the UK."
