“Heart disease has affected my family in a massive way – at the age of only 39, my Dad had a heart attack. Thankfully, he survived, but both my grandparents died of heart attacks and I know that, because it’s genetic, it could affect me, and my children too.
We have to fight it, not only to help my kids, but their kids and the generations to come. Knowing about heart disease has encouraged me to change my lifestyle – I’m more sensible about what I eat and take more exercise. It’s daft to be stuck at home in front of the telly with a burger and fries when you could be out walking or running and raising money for a worthwhile charity.
Running the London Marathon to help a great charity like the BHF, which does so much for people with heart disease, was fantastic, and because heart disease has affected my whole family, they were behind me all the way. BHF supporters on the day were great too – just when you wanted to sit down and go to sleep, someone would cheer you on and you’d be up and running again. I'm really proud of what I've achieved and if the money I've raised helps the BHF fight heart disease, that’s fantastic. I'll be back.”
