With a population of just under three million, Wales boasts a unique culture and one of the oldest languages in Europe, spoken fluently by about one in five of the population.
The first parliament on Welsh soil for 400 years was set up in 1999. The National Assembly for Wales has given legitimacy to Wales' desire to set its own political agenda within the framework of Westminster and Brussels.
That is why the BHF have dedicated teams of staff, volunteers and supporters working to fight heart disease throughout the communities in Wales.
These teams work hard to raise money and provide guidance and advice to our supporters and volunteers as well as raising awareness of heart and circulatory disease and what the BHF is doing to fight it.
Thanks to the tenacity and enthusiasm of our staff, supporters and volunteers in Wales, we were able to contribute £1.2 million for vital research projects at Cardiff University, over £22,000 for Emergency Lifesaving Skills schemes, nearly £42,000 for lifesaving cardiac equipment for use in hospitals and in communities throughout Wales, and by 2007 will have spent over £500,000 for BHF Heart Nurses posts throughout Wales.
Help us beat heart disease together.
