Heart of Poole Appeal
Raising £38,000 for a Portable Echocardiograph Machine
The BHF is coordinating a public fundraising appeal to raise
£38,000 towards the cost of a new state of the art
Portable Echocardiograph Machine (Echo). This will be a vital piece
of equipment for Poole Hospital, and will help to diagnose heart
disease in patients of all ages.
We urgently need people like you across Poole to get involved
and support the Heart of Poole Appeal by offering
to give donations of time or money to help us
save more lives.
Why is a portable echocardiograph machine so important?
Developments in portable Echo scanning have radically improved
the ways in which patients undergo investigations into cardiac
problems.
An Echo scan is a painless, non-intrusive test, which looks at
the structure of the heart. A probe is placed on the chest and a
pulse of high frequency sound is passed through the skin. The
echoes reflected by the pulse show as a picture on a monitor – the
technology is similar to that used in pregnancy scans.
Alan Bristow, a heart patient in Poole, says:
"It's about ten years since my first Echo scan which helped
diagnose my irregular heart rhythm. My condition still needs
monitoring and Echo scans help with this.
"I’m glad to be alive, and still here with my family. I am happy
to be a part of this appeal so that others, like me, can benefit
from echocardiograms to diagnose and monitor heart problems. They
really do save lives."
We need your support of the
Hearts of Poole appeal to help heart patients in
