Take a Hike and on your Bike……
Enjoy a scenic 8 mile hike in the heart of the Lakes
on Saturday. Starting in Grasmere the circular route takes in the
areas of Rydal including Rydal Mount, Wordsworth’s home for over 30
years, Nab Cottage, home to the romantic poets De Quincey and
Colridge, Rydal Water, Ambleside, Loughrigg Terrace with its
stunning views and lakeside paths
Then what better way to end the weekend than with a
challenging 31km (20 mile) on and off road bike ride.
Taking in views of the Langdale Pikes, the Furness Fells and The
Old Man of Coniston, Lakes Windermere and Coniston and scenic
Lakeland villages on Sunday.
The Route
Bike Ride - The route is a mixture of off road cycle tracks and
quiet roads. There are some challenging ascents and descents and
small stretches of the route with rough terrain of shale and
slate.
Hike - The route follows established paths and tracks and takes in
the well known Coffin Trail, so called because coffins used to be
carried from Ambleside to Grasmere along this route until 1821.
This is a moderate route with stunning views of the surrounding
scenery.

Hike - Start between 10.00 – 11.00am, Saturday 11
September
Bike - Start between 10.00 – 10.50am Sunday 12
September
Anything else I need to know?
• The minimum age for this event is
18.
• All riders must wear a cycle
helmet.
• The route is fully signed and
marshalled.
• Free water is available at points
along the route and at the end.
• All participants will receive a free BHF
t-shirt.
