Support Group accolade

An HCP (UK) support group affiliate from the Black Country Cardiovascular Network, Wolverhampton Coronary Aftercare Support Group , was recently awarded The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service 2008 . This is the highest accolade that can be bestowed on a group of its kind and equivalent to an MBE.

Since its formation in 1985 to provide help and support to Wolverhampton heart patients and their carers, it has raised in excess of £1.75 million to assist in cardiac care. It was also instrumental in supporting the provision of tertiary services for patients and carers of the Black Country by presenting a petition to parliament containing over 10,000 signatures.

The group, which now has in excess of 500 members, also provides the “patients' voice” locally, regionally and nationally by patient representation on committees. Please visit its website: www.have-a-heart.net
