The BCPA is a non profit making organisation run by volunteers and established to provide support to cardiac patients and their carers. The primary aim is to give support, reassurance and advice to cardiac patients, their families and carers.

The British Cardiovascular Society was established in 1922, and is a charitable body. The majority of members are UK cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, but membership also includes other doctors and healthcare professionals. The Society is involved in education, the setting of clinical standards and research into heart and circulatory diseases.
