Welcome to the Cardio & Vascular Coalition
The Cardio and Vascular Coalition (CVC) is a national coalition of 40 voluntary and professional organisations with an interest in promoting and protecting cardiac and vascular health in England.
The interests of the CVC membership cover cardiac and vascular and related conditions - heart disease, diabetes, stroke and kidney disease - from pre-birth to end of life care.
Excellent progress has been made tackling cardiovascular diseases over the last decade. But we cannot be complacent.
The fact that we're living longer and our lifestyles are unhealthier means more needs to be done to sustain and improve progress.
The Government launched the new Cardio Vascular Disease Outcomes Strategy on March 5.
The CVC are delighted to see a number of recommendations made in its Joint APPG Report ‘Tackling Cardiovascular Disease: Priorities for the Outcomes Strategy’ are included in the Strategy.
The CVC will now look for ways to help and support the Strategy be translated into action on the ground.
Betty McBride, Chair of the CVC, warmly welcomed the Strategy: "We welcome the new strategy as the foundation for tackling cardiovascular conditions.
“It is hugely significant that it will seek to tackle the health challenges we face in a joined up way. It’s why heart, diabetes, kidney and stroke charities came together to share our concern and expertise on how we could tackle a range of conditions which affect millions of people.
“We worked with a number of All Party Parliamentary Groups to produce a report examining what the priorities for the strategy should be. Much of what we called for has been included and we’re pleased to see that the Department of Health has listened to our views.
“We now need to make sure that this translated into actions on the ground. It is now up to local commissioners to implement the strategy if we are to realise the benefits to the health of the nation.”
